If you're reading this then the answer is likely to be yes and you’re likely to be very frustrated. Whether it’s for socialising, fitness, or hiking up our beautiful mountains here in the Lake District, walking is an integral part of everyday life.

Walking is also important for maintaining strength, helping with circulation and boosting our mental health and independence.

Michael knows the value of walking and its many benefits. After walking the Camino De Santiago route with his father he felt the health and happiness benefits immediately!

Let’s get you walking pain free and without restriction

Michael has an interest in treating people who have an injury or pain that is hindering their walking, or pain that is brought on by the act of walking. He is particularly interested when your problem has persisted or become reoccurring; even more so when you have failed to find a lasting result from other treatments.

Michael’s approach is to address the root cause of the issue so the pain does not return. Often, hands on treatment or regular physio exercises only help to settle the pain only for it to come back when we start walking more.

1. Understand the problem and make a plan

During your Initial Assessment, Michael will identify where the pain is coming from and what the underlying causes may be and the reason your walking-related pain isn’t settling down by itself. Whether it’s your specific muscle imbalances at play, or your individual walking style, or an old or current injury, he will find this out and explain it in a way that makes sense. From here, he will make a plan with you, with definitive milestones and tell you honestly how many session you’re likely to need to get you back walking the distance and frequency you desire.

2. Walk with less pain and more confidence

Treatment will revolve around your needs and goals. Hands on techniques can reduce pain immediately and wake up weak muscles making walking easier from the outset. Muscle imbalances cause certain muscles to overwork and become injured whilst walking, while weak ones remain inactive and unnoticed. Imbalances are managed through specific strengthening exercises and easy to follow small adjustments in the way you walk to take pressure off the painful area giving you chance to heal and walk further and faster with less pain. He may also advise on appropriate footwear.

3. Protect you now and into the future

As you move through your structured treatment plan, you will find that Michael’s approach not only deals with the problem in hand, but also addresses the underlying cause improving your ability to walk now and giving you lasting results for the future.

Whether you’re suffering from an acute injury that’s stopping you from walking now, or you have pain brought on through the act of walking from an unknown issue that’s been brewing over time, treatment will future-proof your walking and everything that comes with it.
